Alcoholic Mixed Drink Recipes for Keto Diet

People following a Keto diet are keeping their carb intake down as much as possible, so it may seem awkward to know what mixed drinks and cocktails to serve for yourself or your friends who are on the Keto diet.

The first thing to know is that most spirits are carb free, so vodka, gin, whiskey, rum, and tequila are all carb free. Liquor being carb free is excellent news but makes for a pretty dull drinks menu when you also learn that the mixers you would typically add to these spirits like soda, juice, syrup, sweeteners and energy drinks will soon pile up the carb count.

Never fear, all you need now is to understand the secret to carb free mixers, and you are back in business. Carb free mixers that you can safely use in your cocktails are diet soda, seltzer, sugar-free tonic water, and sparkling water.

For completely carb free mixed drinks you can stick to some classics, here are just a few.

Gin and Tonic

Gin and Tonic

  • Your Favorite Gin

  • Sugar-free tonic water

  • Slice of lemon

Vodka and Coke

Vodka and Coke

  • Vodka of your choice

  • Diet Coke

Whiskey and Ginger Ale

Whiskey Ginger-ale

  • Whiskey of choice

  • Sugar-free ginger ale

These are fine but now let’s find some more exciting twists with just a few carbs added by the fresh fruit.

Low Carb Margarita


  • 1 ½ oz Tequila

  • 2 tbs freshly squeezed lime juice

  • ¼ cup of water

  • ¼ tsp orange extract

  • Ice

  • Coarse salt

Add the tequila, lime juice, water, and orange extract to a cocktail shaker together with a little ice and blend.

Moisten the rim of a wide rimmed glass and dip into the salt. Pour the blended mix into the glass.

Note that the lime does have a small number of carbs.

Low Carb Strawberry Vodka spritzer

Vodka Spritzer Bar

  • Smirnoff Strawberry Vodka

  • Apple Berry Le Croix

  • Sliced strawberries

  • ice

Add some vodka and ice to a tall glass, add the Le Croix and a slice of strawberry to garnish

Note there are some carbs in fruit so be sparing with the strawberry.

Low Carb Dark and Stormy

  • Gin (dark)

  • Sugar-free Ginger Beer

  • Fresh lime juice

  • Ice

Add some ice to a tall glass followed by a shot of gin, a small amount of fresh lime juice and add the ginger beer. Stir a little if required.

Once again, the carbs are in the lime juice.

Light beers and red or white wine and are also quite low in carbs, but they go down pretty smoothly when you are chatting with friends, and the carbs can soon add up, so you need to keep track, and that can spoil an evening somewhat, so in some ways, the mixed drinks are a better option.

If you or your friends are on a keto diet, it is just worth mentioning that although these drinks are low or carb free, alcohol contains empty calories. Empty calories have no useful content like fiber or minerals, vitamins, or protein and may lead to weight gain.
