Best Singapore Sling Recipes

The Singapore Sling has been around since its invention in 1915 in Singapore (naturally) at the Long Bar. It is a gin-based classic cocktail which, since its invention seems to have constantly varied so that there are many claims to the original recipe. Whatever the original recipe is, like all cocktails, the real enjoyment is down to taste so, if you find a variation you love, then that is your Singapore Sling. We’ve put together what we think are the best Singapore Sling recipes for you to start your journey of finding your favorite.

The Classic Version

  • 1 ½ oz Gin
  • 1 oz Benedictine
  • 1 oz Lime Juice
  • ¼ oz Simple Syrup
  • 2 oz Club Soda
  • ½ oz Cherry Brandy or Kirsch
  • Lemon and Maraschino Cherries to garnish

Put the gin, Benedictine, lime juice, syrup, and cherry brandy in a cocktail shaker with some crushed ice and shake well. Pour into a tall glass, add the soda and then garnish with a lemon slice and a cherry.

An Earlier Version

The Singapore cricket club reportedly created this Singapore Sling Recipe before the classic.

  • 1 oz Cherry Brandy
  • 1oz Gin
  • 1oz Benedictine
  • Lime Juice
  • 1 to 2 oz Sparkling Water
  • Angostura Bitters

Stir the Cherry Brandy, Gin, Benedictine, and Lime Juice into the glass with ice. Add the Sparkling Water and then a dash of Angostura Bitters.
The type of gin used will make a difference to the subtleties of the taste, creating yet another combination of mixed drinks.

Singapore Sling Recipe with Pineapple

It is said that the supposed inventor of this drink included pineapple in his notes, so we had to include this version and it possibly has more true Singapore ingredients in the recipe.

  • 25ml Dry Gin
  • 25ml Cherry Brandy
  • 25 ml Benedictine
  • 50ml Pineapple Juice
  • 25ml Lime Juice
  • Few drops of Angostura Bitters
  • Sparkling Water to top up
  • Garnish with 1 Cocktail Cherry I Slice of Pineapple

Add the Gin, Cherry Brandy, Benedictine, and the Bitters into a glass or jug and add ice. Stir until the container feels cool then transfer to glasses and add the Pineapple Juice and the Lime juice and stir gently then add the Sparkling Water and garnish.
This recipe could be quite easily scaled up with the base mix pre-prepared and kept in the cooler then poured into glasses, and the finishing touches added for the final flourish.
When you enjoy your cocktails, this one is an excellent addition to your repertoire of mixed drinks your friends are sure to love, and you don’t need to source native Singapore ingredients for a great taste.
